Shahor (Japanese: シャホル, Hepburn: Shahoru; c. 990 – June 6, 998) was the son of Gray and Lord of the Land of Forests in the late 10th century.

History

Life

Shahor was born around the year 990 to Gray, Lord of the Land of Mountains. He went on to become the Lord of the Land of Forests.[1.1]

Death

On June 6, 998, Shahor made his way to the Cathedral City alongside his father and Caerula, Lady of the Land of Seas. Together, they sought to open Mercury's Door to obtain great power, as well as to avenge Beis, former ruler of the Land of Sands.[1.1]

When the magical girls known as Intoners arrived to also open the door, the Lords ambushed them. Shahor cut off Intoner Two's arm, leaving her to bleed to death. However, when Mercury's Door was shattered by Intoner One's Power of Song, the Black Mud from beyond it proceeded to use the dead Intoners to summon daemons.[1.3] Shahor watched helplessly as his father was killed by the daemon Armisael.[1.3] Although initially saved from a similar fate by Caerula, she soon revealed her real intentions for saving him – Caerula ripped out Shahor's youthful heart in order to restore her own beauty and power, killing him.[1.4]

Legacy

For a while after Shahor's death, the people of the Land of Forests remained unaware of it.[3][3.1][2.1] The deaths of the Lords of the Lands were only made public in January 999, when Intoner One triumphantly returned to the Cathedral City, having conquered all of Europe.[2.1] Shahor was replaced as Lord of the Land of Forests by the Intoner Three.

Characteristics

Appearance

Shahor was a young boy. He wore a feathered cap on his head and had a long cloak, which may have been a hand-me-down from his father.[1.2]

Personality

Shahor had both an innocent and a ruthless side.[1.2]

Abilities

Despite his appearance, Shahor was skilled in hand-to-hand combat. He also employed a magic bangle which generated a magical forcefield capable of taking on various shapes, such as that of a shield or a spear.[1.2]

Behind the scenes

Etymology

Shahor (שחר) is a Hebrew adjective meaning black.[4] This follows the theme of the Lords of the Lands being named after colours.

Fan translations

Fan-made translations of Drag-On Dragoon Utahime Five have previously translated the name incorrectly as "Shaxor."

Notes

  1. Shahor's year of birth is inferred from information about his age. Therefore, it should be understood as an approximation.
