Gray (Japanese: グレイ, Hepburn: Gurei; c. 954 – June 6, 998) was the father of Shahor and Lord of the Land of Mountains in the late 10th century.
History
Life
Gray was born around the year 954. At some point, he became the Lord of the Land of Mountains.[1.1] He fathered a son in 990, Shahor, who became the Lord of the Land of Forests.
Death
On June 6, 998, Gray made his way to the Cathedral City with his son, and his magic teacher Caerulea, Lady of the Land of Seas. Together, the three of them sought to open Mercury's Door to obtain great power, as well as to avenge Beis, former ruler of the Land of Sands.[1.1]
When the magical girls known as Intoners arrived to also open the door, the landed lords ambushed them. Gray managed to singlehandedly kill Three, Five and Four. However, when Mercury's Door was shattered by Intoner One's Power of Song, the Black Mud from beyond it proceeded to use the dead Intoners to summon daemons.[1.3] Gray was subsequently killed by the daemon Armisael.[1.3]
Legacy
For a while after Gray's death, the people of the Land of Mountains remained unaware of it.[3][3.1][2.1] The deaths of the landed lords were only made public in January 999, when Intoner One triumphantly returned to the Cathedral City, having conquered all of Europe.[2.1] Gray was replaced as Lord of the Land of Mountains by the Intoner Four.
Characteristics
Appearance
Gray was a blond man who was particular about the clothes and accessories he wore.[1.2]
Personality
Gray spoke in a strange way.[note 2][1.2]
Abilities
Gray was a practicioner of magic who wielded a spear. By transmitting magical power to the crystal ball in the spear's centre, Gray could make it create an explosion.[1.2]
Behind the scenes
Etymology
Gray's name follows the theme of the landed lords being named after colours.
