The Ten Nights of Tragedy (Japanese: 十夜の悲劇, Hepburn: Jūya no higeki) was a tragic event that took place over the course of ten nights in 868 AD. Due to a severe food shortage, the Cathedral City was unable to accept any more refugees. In order to restrict the influx of refugees, the Chaldean Gate was built over the course of three nights. Subsequently, a battle ensued between the refugees and the City Self-Defense Forces, which lasted for a further seven nights.[1][1.1]
