Pythagorean Institute

The Pythagorean Institute (Japanese: ピタゴラス機関, Hepburn: Pitagorasu kika) was a research institute headquartered in the Cathedral City. It was set up in 867 AD to study disasters, calamities and the rising occurence of abnormalities across the world. It disappeared from the historical record in 882 AD after the Council of Chaldea where it had become a secret organisation within the newly established Church.

History

Establishment and rise to power

The Pythagorean Institute was founded in 867 AD by nobles and intellectuals who fled from their kingdoms to the Cathedral City following the Cataclysm. In 870 AD, the Pythagorean Institute was able to confirm the existence of magic. Five years later, in 875 AD, the Pythagorean Institute created a system for the registration and authorisation of people who perform miracles using magic. This marked the beginning of the Pythagorean Institute dictating social status in the City.

Over the next three years, people stopped worshipping their former religions and instead began to venerate the "Performers and Miracles of the Pythagorean Institute" (Japanese: ピタゴラス機関の行使者や奇跡, Hepburn: Pitagorasu kikan no kōshi-sha ya kiseki), or simply the Church.

Fall into obscurity

In 882, the Council of Chaldea was held between the Catholic Church and the Pythagorean Institute. Together they established the Church, a new organisation intended to bring peace to the world. The Pythagorean Institute became a secret organisation within the Church and thus disappeared from the known historical record.
