The Chaldean Gate (Japanese: カルデアの門, Hepburn: Karudea no mon) was a gate built in 868 AD to keep refugees out of the Cathedral City, which was undergoing a food shortage at the time. It was constructed over the course of three nights, which were followed by a battle between refugees and the City Self-Defense Forces that lasted a further seven nights. This conflict over the gate became known as the Ten Nights of Tragedy. The gate remained closed for the next ten years until it was opened again in 878 AD as the city began to expand.[1][1.1]
