The Blue Revolt (Japanese: 青の乱, Hepburn: Ao no ran) was the second revolution led by wizards against the Church and the leadership of the Magic Academy. It happened in 991 AD, twenty years after the White Revolt.

History

The underground revolutionary group known as the Blue Order was founded a year after a famine broke out in the Cathedral City.[1][1.1] During the next four years, their movement began to gain traction, as many young wizards and landed lords who were dissatisfied with the Church came to support their cause.[1.1]

Finally, in 991 AD, a massive revolt by the Blue Order broke out in the Cathedral City. They occupied the Central Magic Academy with the aim of abolishing the power of the landed lords within the institution, and creating a free and independent Magic Academy. However, the Blue Order was destroyed overnight by a large-scale sealing magic attack seen across the city. Eighty percent of the citizens living within two of the city's wards were used as catalysts for the sealing magic and died as a result. Meanwhile, the survivors went insane and were subsequently buried alive.[1.1]

Legacy

Following the Blue Revolt, the number of wizard applicants approved by the Magic Academy decreased sharply. The local government and Church became more and more dependent on the military might of the landed lords. Independent magical research and original magical research funded by the landed lords became widespread. This left the Magic Academy and the Church in an uncertain position.[1.1]
