White Revolt

The White Revolt (Japanese: 白の乱, Hepburn: Shiro no ran) was the first revolt against the Church and the Magic Academy led by dissatisfied wizards. It occurred in the year 971 AD.
History
Starting in 960 AD, the Church began electing landed lords as directors of the Magic Academy. This made the wizards restless, as some of the lords had no actual magical knowledge.[1][1.1]
Eleven years later, young wizards who were fiercely opposed to the continued election of landed lords as directors of the Magic Academy surrounded the Central Magic Academy in the Cathedral City and demanded that the current director resign. However, they were suppressed overnight.[1.1]
Legacy
Although it ended in failure, the White Revolt would not be the last time wizards would try to rebel against the Church and the landed lords.[1.1] Fifteen years after the White Revolt, the Blue Order, an underground revolutionary group, was created by wizards and people suffering from famine in the city. In 991 AD, they staged another revolt, which came to be know as the Blue Revolt.[1.1]

Etymology
The exact reason for the name is unknown. However, across many cultures, the colour white is often associated with innocence and purity.[2] The revolt may be called white because it was specifically led by young wizards (Japanese: 若手魔導師, Hepburn: wakate madō-shi) who naively thought they could make a change. Alternatively, it may represent the wizards' desire to purify the Magic Academy of corruption.
